Description

Old Brathay Hall, (also known as Low Brathay) was the residence, from 1800 to 1839, of poet Charles Lloyd, a contemporary of the Lake Poets William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Robert Southey. In this quiet, autumnal painting of a shuttered house with a spiral of dark birds rising above the trees standing on an island in the middle of the River Brathay, Alfred evokes a rich sense of the Lakes literary heritage in this haunting place.
